117. Curse of Chucky
★★★¼
While it features a myriad of unexpected and inventive plot developments, and a natural scream-queen performance from Fiona Dourif (hope to see more from her), it’s also boring for long stretches and Chucky never quite escapes his comical past, despite the director’s intentions. The gore is plentiful, but wholly unrealistic. It’s not quite campy enough to be a romp, nor dark enough to be truly scary. However, something about it clicks in the right moments, making it easily the best entry in the franchise.
